"At the time, Cage was teaching Experimental Composition at New York City's New School. Eight years beyond 4:33, he was (as our smoking MC informs us) the most controversial figure in the musical world at that time. His first performance on national television was originally scored to include five radios, but a union dispute on the CBS set prevented any of the radios from being plugged in to the wall. Cage gleefully smacks and tosses the radios instead of turning them on and off.

While treating Cage as something of a freak, the show also treats him fairly reverentially, cancelling the regular game show format to allow Cage the chance to perform his entire piece. "

Hommage à Geoffrey Hendricks (1931 - 2018)

La Fondation du Doute a ouvert ses portes en 2013 à Blois (à 160 kilomètres au sud-ouest de Paris, France). Elle a été fondée par l'artiste plasticien Ben, membre du mouvement Fluxus, apparu en 1962 à Wiesbaden (Allemagne), qui entendait effectuer un minutieux travail de sape des catégories de l'art par un rejet systématique des institutions et une profonde remise en question de la notion d'œuvre d'art. Ben Vautier a pu déclarer dans Art press (n°13, septembre-octobre 1974) que sans John Cage, Marcel Duchamp et Dada, Fluxus n'existerait pas. Fluxus s'est déployé en Allemagne, Hollande, Danemark, France et aux États-Unis.

En 2017, du 3 mai au 5 novembre, la Fondation du Doute a consacré une très belle exposition à l'un des membres fondateurs de Fluxus, l'américain Geoffrey Hendricks, qui vient de disparaître le 12 mai dernier à l'âge de 86 ans (Biographie). Romain Evrard et Alain Goulesque ont réalisé à cette occasion un très beau film de présentation de l'homme et de son œuvre (à voir ci-dessus), où il rend au passage hommage à George Maciunas et à ses performances. 

Les membres de Fluxus furent Marcel Alocco, Eric Andersen, Ay-O, Joseph Beuys, George Brecht, Bazon Brock, Abino Byrolle, Philip Corner, Charles Dreyfus, Jean Dupuy, Robert Filliou, Henry Flynt, Ken Friedman, Geoffrey Hendricks, Dick Higgins, Arthur Koepcke, La Monte Young, Vytautas Landsbergis, George Maciunas, Charlotte Moorman, Serge Oldenbourg, Yoko Ono, Nam June Paik, Ben Patterson, Willem de Ridder, Tomas Schmit, Gianni-Emilio Simonetti, Daniel Spoerri, Ben Vautier [Ben], Wolf Vostell, Robert Watts et Emmett Williams.
